The Hohoe Ghana Presby School won the Lead Connect Global Quiz competition, Mr Bright Yao Afeku’s edition.
The school, which Osuya Angela, Ayim Benedicta and Appoh Jerry Mawulolo represented, scored 87 points in the five-rounder quiz competed by 6 other schools.They were led by Madam Hodienukpor Delase who also won the best Trainer or Coach award
The competitors had their knowledge tested inspelling, reading, mathematics, computing, and science in a four-hour, highly anticipated contest.
They were presented with a trophy, certificates and educational materials, and they own the bragging right as the best school in the Hohoe Constituency in the Volta Region.
The Board-Chairman of Lead Connect Global, Bright Yao Afeku, said the competition is a component of his outfit’s programme being implemented to help improve the standard of education in under-served communities.
He said the quiz was designed to test the capabilities of the learners after going through a special course designed to enhance their learning abilities.
He said some University of Ghana students who are volunteers of Lead Connect Global facilitated the participation of learners of basic five and six in the special course.
Mr Afeku added that his outfit also aims to promote education across the country to reduce the phenomenon of school dropouts, enhance academic performance and ultimately improve the standard of education.
“We have been to the Northern Region, Volta Region, Eastern Region and Greater Accra Region. We aim to make sure that students are in school and that they have their education secured. So that is how we are giving back to society”, he said.
The Hohoe Municipal Director of Education, Victor Kwaku Kovey, lauded the pragmatic approach by the organisation to help improve the learning abilities of the learners.
He lamented the poor performnce of the municipality in the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examinations, hoping that programmes of such nature would help change the narrative.
“This quiz competition is a very good one. This will help our learners to learn hard so that in the end their performances in education will improve”, he said.
The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Worlanyo Tsekpo, also indicated that the initiative would complement efforts to raise the standard of education in the constituency.
He identified investing in classroom and accommodation infrastructure, providing information communication technology (ICT) facilities, and implementing teacher motivation projects as areas to focus on to enhance academic performance.
”This particular quiz, I know it is going to enhance performance, and then it is going to motivate our kid brothers and sisters to study very hard”, he said.
